Hello to all, I'm new to the list so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious.
I installed Raging Guitars on my dual 2 gig G5, and the plug in loads fine, However, when I change from one preset to another it immediately crashes logic. When I run Raging guitars in standalone mode, I can run through all the presets with no problem whatsoever. Any thoughts? Anyone experiencing anything similar? My setup/software config follows.
Thanks to all in advance. Evoclogic Dual 2 gig g5 OSX 10.4.7 4 gigs Ram Logic 7.1.1 Raging Guitars 1.1.8.003 Motu 828mk2 Audio Interface Emagic AMT8 Midi interface. You're not alone in this. I've been in contact with Big Fish Audio for 6 months, who've sent me emails acknowledging this problem.
They said NI was reprogramming a new Kontakt player to address this issue and that it would be a free download in the NI site when finished. 'A few more weeks,' they kept saying. I emailed NI about it and said they had no knowledge of what Big Fish was talking about, and that it works just fine for them, when clearly we all have the same problem.
NI stated that they do indeed have a new version of their Kontakt Player, but that it was Big Fish who would post it. Big Fish has stopped has stopped replying to my emails to find out what's going on. Email Big Fish and NI now and often!!! To Big Fish Audio: 'Contrary to post above'?? I have been emailing you and getting your explanations for months.
It's now November. Let your customers know the facts and decide for themselves. Enclosed are the emails sent by Big Fish, then one added by NI Customer service.
There are three noted. (Date: July 14) Hello Jeff, We received our Player 2 upgrade kit from Native Instruments yesterday.
The programmers have begun working on reprogramming Raging Guitars for this new version of the Kontakt Player. The programmers cannot give a definitive time frame for when the upgrade will be available. At this point they are saying, it is going to be a few weeks, not months. This upgrade once finished will be available for download, to all registered users free of charge directly from Native Instruments website. This is an issue that began with Logic 7.1.1, and we are trying to resolve it as quickly as possible. Best Regards, Customer Service Big Fish Audio 661-295-0761 661-295-8612 fax (Date: September 06).
Hello Jeff, We are near completion of the Raging Guitars update. We are in the process of finishing patch reprogramming, and then we have to test it with the various host sequencers, and stand alone set-ups that most people use to make sure no new problems have been introduced. We want to make sure that this is as bug free as possible before we release it. This is a top priority for us and we are working as quickly as we can to wrap this up. We thank you for your patience and understanding. Sincerely, Customer Service Big Fish Audio 661-295-0761 661-295-8612 fax (Oct 11) (From NI) It is true that we have developed a new version of Kontakt Player which is Kontakt Player 2.
So far, I have no info when the Big Fish Library 'Raging Guitars ' will be available for the new player. You should get this info at Big Fish. Well, NI says it's developed, and Big Fish says it's being developed and NI says it's Big Fish who'll release it and Big Fish says it's NI who'll post it. The product has been sold since April 06. Two weeks ago I sent a snail mail letter to Big Fish asking for a solution, followed up with an email.
I have rec'd no reply. Their response to you, the consumer, was a post on an NI Commmunity Board telling you that my post is inaccurate.
Well, you've all (like me) paid full price and purchased their product which is defective. You can read the enclosed emails proving that they actually have NO timeline or idea when or if this will be addressed.
And like me, I'm none of you have been offered refunds. I think all that is pretty accurate. Click to expand.Jeff, Big Fish Audio's mention 'contrary to the post above' referred to the fact that NI agreed the problem was with the Kontakt Player; they were not disputing any timeline statements you made. All companies like BigFish are totally dependent on NI completing the coding for the 'Kontakt Player 2'. To my knowledge I am not aware of the release of new players for ANY of the NI-powered products that were originally produced using Kompakt/Kontakt. The reason Big Fish couldn't give you any timelines was because they are totally dependent on NI to create the 'Kontakt Player 2' engine.
Bottom line, NI has been the 'bottleneck', since they control the sample player (companies like BigFish just provide content). As background, companies like EastWest, Garritan, Best Service and BigFish really only create the sample libraries themselves (the content). They license the player engine from NI. This is also why all of the authorizations occur through NI. NI has total, complete control of the player engine software. These 'content companies' only provide the samples (.wavs), instruments (.nki), and mujltis (.nkm). NI 'encodes' (copy protects) the samples into.nks files, bundled with a content-specific player.
To Big Fish, You misunderstand, then misdirect the issue, all to your convenience. No one disputes that NI is responsible for creating the sampler. The abuse on your part, as the corporate vendor is thus: 1) You sold a product that by admission in your own emails, is not compatible with a platform (Logic 7.1 Pro) due to technical issues. That is fraud.
2) You offered no manufacturers refund at source, even though you admit liability. That is theft. 3) You claim that NI is responsible for providing the solution, though you keep the money. The solution is now 8 months and counting from the time of purchase.
That is disgusting. My point Big Fish, is that you created a good product that has a fatal flaw. You kept the funds paid to you, though it is unusable in its present state. You provide no foreseable resolution date to the problem, and instead tell the consumer to be patient.
Again, the similar comparison is if YOU paid NI to tailor the Kontakt player for Raging Guitars, and YOU paid them, and they delivered a product that didn't work. How long would your accounts receivables dep't, then lawyers decide is reasonable to either fix the problem or refund the monies YOU paid them?? No one is denying the problem. But nowhere on your site does it say 'this product is currently not compatible with Logic 7.1 but pay for it now and we MAY have a solution for you early 2007.'
You have our money. We have your defective product. Explanations have nothing to do with us. Refund our money or fix the product within a reasonable time, is all anyone expects. And as far as Consumer Affairs is concerned, do YOU think 8 months and continuing is reasonable?
How long would it take before YOU were tired of excuses?? How long before you felt that the company had decided that your money was theirs, regardless of whose fault it was? Because, the way we see it, this is between you and NI. Why are WE paying for your technical issues? Fix or refund.
Dear Fellow Crash Victims, Bad news, I'm afraid. Big Fish's only line of defense was that they were working on a Kontakt Player fix (that was being held up due to NI's reprogramming) but as soon as all was done, it would be available on NI's site. I just rec'd a definative email from Customer Support at NI stating that a new Kontakt and thus, Kontakt Player (2.0) has been released but because it is a significant upgrade and not an update it will NEVER be available as a download for us. Yes, he clearly used the word 'never.'
NI has stated that they have made it available to third party vendors like Big Fish, to program their products using it as the engine. But I think we can all see the problem with this by now. Big Fish acknowledged there is a problem (there is), stated they were waiting for NI to finish their end (NI has finished), stated they will reprogram Raging Guitars (maybe for a new generation but not ours) and that it will be posted on the NI site (and NI stated today it will NEVER happen.) So what happens now? Because Big Fish has land position only in CA, foreign and NY courts can't enforce interstate commerical disputes of this kind.
If you go to CA, you can file suit in small claims court based on my emails. Courts can't force a company to 'fix a product' that's unfixable, but you can sue for cost of product and damages if you earn any monies from the music business, or recording. Or if there are enough of us, we can file a class action based on my emails, and I can file the next time I'm in LA on business.
Big Fish, you've been monitoring all this. What do you have to say for yourselves?
You claim that NI is holding this up, you claim the fix will be supplied by NI and I have the email that says NI will NEVER do what you say they will do. I've recently been contacted by a music magazine that has been following the forums and thinks this case is interesting. I told you I was involved in the media and to either fix, or refund, or enjoy free press and emails regarding your business practices, only to inform other potential victims. By the way, check with your attorneys - there is no liable if there is evidence of fact. And I've kept every one of your emails.
Which is probably why you've stopped replying to anyone who emails you about this. So guess what? You have the money from at least 3 unhappy, defrauded customers. And now, a whole bunch of publicity and an upcoming suit regarding this coming your way.
As far as I can see, it's strange that Big Fish doesn't take their responsibility. I would ask your money back directly in a snail mail for a second time first, if BigFish won't comply and your patience to wait for a solution has ran out, then sue. Keep in mind that you won't even need the emails (although they will help of course) cause BF simply sold you a product that didn't work and doesn't work although it's advertised and was advertised as working for your particular setup. That's a fact that should be enough to get your money back and in principle you don't need any emails to prove that!!! All the emails and what have been said is actually of no basic concern anymore and initially the emails and words only blurr the quite clear facts (not to say that the emails won't help you). It is absolutely of no concern that NI (maybe) should have provided the technical solution.
Native MIGHT be responsible to Big Fish (we don't know that) but Big Fish is definitely responsible to their costumers as you pointed out quite clearly yourself in post 9. Only the latter is of legal importance to you at this stage. It's as simple as that. Please keep this in mind when dealing with Big Fish cause it means that EVEN IF there would be a new Kontakt player coming up that is free of charge to you, you still have every reason to ask your money back now; you've waited long enough for a good solution and Big Fish have had all the time in the world to provide that solution. Good luck to Jeff and others, Merlin.
