When buying a used ThinkPad, remember to check that the BIOS is not locked with a supervisor's password and that Computrace is not enabled and activated. When buying a new ThinkPad, consider taking the IPS screen option if possible, as it doesn't cost much. Not only will it have better brightness, colour, contrast and viewing angles - you will most probably more than make up the investment when selling it. Update Windows 7 Ultimate
I have a Lenovo T410 that I bought about 5 years ago. After usually being a fairly careful user, I downloaded a program I shouldn't have and consequently now have a virus on my laptop. After using Malewarbytes and trying to get rid of the virus I have just decided to do a clean Windows 7 install (I also just want to clean everything up so hopefully it will run faster / smoother after 5 years). Also, as some background I believe the virus has somehow infected the Registry. I did not make an image of my hard-drive when I got the laptop because I wasn't aware that I should have at the time. The Q partition is still intact. My question is, will using the 'Factory Restore' option though pressing F11 on startup essentially give me a clean install (free of the virus and potential Registry issues) for Windows 7 or is there another way to achieve my goal?
Thanks in advance for any help and answers.
