Daz 3D, 3D Models. Installing the install manager. Arjey Posts: 14. Cntr + V is not working in your little 'paste'-window.
Prior to the advent of the DAZ Install Manager now known to many now simply as DIM, all content had to be installed manually using an executable file or zip file. When you had a few to a lot of content to install it was a laborious task that took ages. Not only did you need to execute the install program, you needed to know where to put the content properly so that everything worked as it should. Zip files were (and are) even worse on a Mac as there is no native merge directory utility as there is with the modern versions of MS Windows. Then along came DIM a godsend to most, easy straight forward to use. Content went into the correct place and the world was all warm and fuzzy.
That is until it does exactly the opposite and causes applications to not work properly, as was the case in a previous blog post where it actually killed the CMS database. Well, not intentionally, but it does have some quirks that are well worth noting. It will only allow content to be installed in a “Shared” directory/folder notably (on an OS X system) “/users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library”, you cannot at the time of this writing nominate any other folder of your choosing. This in itself is not a huge problem, just annoying. Originally DIM would only allow you to download and install content (and updates) purchased from the DAZ Store, and was very good at it saving a lot of time and frustration. Now it would seem the newer version also finds, downloads and wants to install DAZ applications as well. I found this out the hard way.

Although relatively easy to use it is not very intuitive and in most areas I found out how to use it by trial and error. Not very spectacular when installing content, or more importantly not installing for reasons that will become apparent shortly. I don’t know why DAZ in their wisdom decided to include applications like DAZ3D Studio 4.6 Pro 32 bit for Mac as well as the 64 bit version. As they are not compatible on the same machine. They also use the same CMS service and databases. In my case I was not really paying attention to list of available downloads and just thought it was the content I had purchased along with a few content updates, so I hit the GO button.
Only to find that to my horror DIM was reinstalling DAZ3D Studio 4.6 Pro 64bit and the 32bit version as well. That is what killed or corrupted my CMS content database. Yes I hear you say, “but you can remove unwanted downloads and hide them so they don’t install”.
Quite right, I agree. But only if you know what you are doing and are paying 100% attention! Even then they reappear next time you run DIM anyway. Grrrr The long and the short of it all is this, use DIM it is excellent, but bear in mind you have to pay attention to what is in the list in front of you. I much prefer to use DIM for purchased content download and installation, but manually download Applications, Plugins etc from my account page then install them myself.
Anyway I hope this helps, just my 5 cents worth. Hi Marianne, Installing content for DAZ Studio manually on a Mac is a little tedious and long winded as OS X does not have a native “Merge” files or folders utility. I use a utility (it is free) called “Folder Merge” by Darren Cox and it is a godsend for getting content into the right place. If you Google the name Folder Merge for Mac you will find it. It is a snap to install as well. Link: Basically there are two entry boxes, the Folder to Merge (source) and the Merge With (Destination) it allows you to select a source folder with Finder and then the Destination folder.then just click on the “Merge” button. Be aware though that this is not reversible (there is no UNDO).
You have a set of folders under a master folder called “Runtime” and wish to install them into your Content Library’s “Runtime” folder. Just select the Runtime folder you wish to install, then the Content Library Runtime using Finder and press the Merge button. I’m sure once you use it you will quickly get to know what to do.
If you have any problems just email me at: Cheers.
Hi I just tried to save a DAZ scene and it just didn’t work, it was a error message, then I uninstalled everything, Content Manager include, and downloaded everything again, but it didn’t work, I can’t just launch DAZ application. Thanks Well the save Scene part is no longer valid, since you reinstalled DAZ Studio. How did you install DAZ Studio, using the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) or did you install it yourself? What folder did you install DAZ Studio into? Did you get an icon on the Desktop to run DAZ Studio? What happens when you double click on the icon to run DAZ Studio? What Operating System are you using, and is it the 64 bit or 32 bit version?

When you get an error message, it is important to tell us what the message contained, there are many kinds of error messages. When you get home, check DIM.

Go to the Installed tab, find DAZ Studio on it, right click on it, and click on Show Installed Files. That will tell you what (if anything) was installed, and where it was put. These are also clickable links, and will take you straight to the installation folder. You can try running DS from there, or right click on the EXE icon, and select Send To Desktop (Create shortcut) to put it onto the Desktop. It sounds to me like it did not install at all, but DIM will tell you.
If you used the default install location for DIM, you should find a log file in C: Users Public Documents DAZ 3D InstallManager and that may give more information. DS = DAZ Studio The Installed tab is in the interface of the DIM. When you run the DIM (DAZ Install Manager), there are three tabs visible in the interface, 'Ready to Download,', 'Ready to Install and 'Installed'.
If you have installed DS, then it would be in C: Program Files (x86) DAZ 3D DAZStudio4 for the 32 bit version, or C: Program Files DAZ 3D DAZStudio4 for the 64 bit version. Which one did you install? You have to download DAZ Studio from the 'Ready to Download' tab, it will then appear in the 'Ready to Install 'tab. If you have the 'Install after Download' box ticked, it will install automatically, if not, you have to install it yourself from the 'Ready to Install' tab. Click on View Log file, then go to the very bottom of the file (usually Ctrl+End on Windows). DAZ Studio adds to the log file every time you open the program again, so what you are looking for, is the LAST session that you used. When you load DAZ Studio, go to the View Log File, go to the bottom of the file, and then look above that to the END of the previous session.
You should see ' DAZ Studio 4.6.2.118 starting ' for each time you have loaded DAZ Studio recently. Find the one before the current one, and see if it gives any clues. Try this, run DAZ Studio, load a single character (any character) and save it to your content library by using File Save As Scene. You seem to be using 'My Library', but eh DIM installs to 'My DAZ 3D Library' so use that one.
