Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 - Driver Download. Updating your drivers with Driver Alert can help your computer in a number of ways. From adding new functionality and. Mar 10, 2010 I actually have a lifecam vx-1000 and it has worked well for several months. Please make sure that the default device is set to Microsoft LifeCam. LifeCam software displays an error or the video. Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000 Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Microsoft LifeCam VX-500.
I also have the same problem with the microphone on my LifeCam VX-6000 even after installing the updated software. I get a loud buzzing sound in the background when I try to record my voice. When I try to change the microphone settings, the meter goes way up into the red while the mic volume is all the way at the bottom. The microphone works fine on my non-Vista system.
I have a call into customer service and they are supposed to get back to me within 72 hours. A Microsoft webcam not working with Windows Vista-that should be a huge embarrassment for Microsoft. I would love to hear from any of you if you get a solution -. Fatcat1111 wrote: The Vista drivers are here: However even with the latest Vista driver (6.0.6001.2, dated 13-Dec-06) the microphone doesn't work for me. That's why I'm here:) Please let me know how u got the software and driver to install, in the first place. I have been trying for days now and have even had tech support (in a call - and followed up in a subsequent email) say that there are no drivers for Vista (using Ultimate version).
I get an error message when trying to install the software (downloaded from the very link u specify) that specify's that the inf file is not in a format that Vista can read. (The actual message I have screen captured identifies the web cam and then gives the message that the 'syntax of the inf is invalid').
The desktop icons are created. I have redownloaded the program in case the issue was a corrupt file and have also reinstalled the program in Safe mode and still no go. Have a pretty standard set up (Gateway PC with 1GB Ram). I am runiing dual boot and the problem is not hardware related as it runs perfectly on my XP partition!! I would love to only have the microphone issue.:) blakelyg. The Software must be loaded onto your computer before you attach the hardware for some reason. Uninstal the hardware and software if you did not do this then start again.
Yes, the software loading up was problematic for me too. But I just had to keep trying to load up the software again and again.
It went on about the fifth time I think. I found it necessary to first turn off my firewall before loading the software. Then when I got it on and did the updating of software that was available and installed that I had to hold down the 'enter' key instead of pressing it each time to replace existing files. Yes, it was vital to hold down the enter key or as I was finding I'd have been there for nearly ever. PS - once the software is on then load then connect your hardware and it should work - I hope.
I notice that a new version of the hardware is out so this problem of setting up must have been a common thing I think. For some reason in vista you have to manually install the driver for most lifecams in some cases. Just go into device manager and right click the yellow higlighted icon and select update. Then choose to manually find the driver. Then go to imaging devices and then from the list choose microsoft and the desired driver for the model you have. However this does not resolve the mic problem in many cases. If this also installs the mic for you then good for you.
But for the other people you may just have to wait. I am sitting with this same problem on my 64 bit vista. Do you mean as in BT home hub? I was and am using the Wireless Orange Home hub but was am and still using it UNwirelessly as it were.
But then again, I seem to remember that I turned off wireless on it which I sometimes used for another computer. So, it might have been that feature of the hub transmitting and receiving that affected the sound on my Lifecam. But I can not really say that was the case. For me, it was just a matter of somehow getting the software on and of loading the software before installation of the hardware. Anyway, great joy at your success!
I'm not exactly sure what hub Joy was on about - I think it was either a type of wireless broadband modem or else an adaptor for multi use of further ports. The only hub I really have heard talked about is the BT home hub but the word hub is kind of strange isn't it? As far as I can remember on the light on my webcam - it only lights up when it is working - i.e, when I open up the software that links to the webcam and then I can see it capturing moving pictures. Otherwise the light is off on mine - meaning it is not recording or monitoring anything.
I havent found a solution yet but i found an interesting fact when trying to install this webcam on vista. This webcam software comes with 2 driver files.
One is by the name of 'vx6000' and the other is 'vx6000m'. Interestingly windows does not associate these two files in order to give us a rich and fully mixed experience. I hope a M/S tech reads this. I guess what they have to do is find some way to combine those two files instead of keeping them separate.
I tried forcefully installing both of them individually and what happened what that the 'vx6000' only installed the camera drivers and no sound (mic). Then when forcefully tried the other one 'vx6000m' which is supposedly the mic or audio drivers, it would install but with an error code 10 (failed to start). This means to the best of knowledge that when u try to install the mic the camera gets rejected and when the camera is installed the mic gets rejected. If someone knows a solution or has a similar problem, please share it here along with tips n tricks used. Thanks and no, i am not using a USB hub. The problem persists within. What is up with this webcam and Vista???
I was using it fine (video and mic) on Win XP. It's actually a really nice item. I got Vista and POOF! I can't even install the thing! I bought this camera specifically for the fact that I knew I was upgrading to Vista soon.
False advertisement on the part of Microsoft when they said this Works with Vista. Has ayone found a way to install this yet? I've tried all the things listed in this thread to no avail. I don't want to pull out my XP machine just because of this. I had much difficulty getting this product to be installed on XP. I had about 5 attempts at install and had to keep uninstalling to try again, and finally loaded it on under safemode conditions (which was not stressed at all in the instructions).
Even then I had to hold the return key down (this was vital) for hundreds or thousands of 'do you wish to overwrite' because there was no option of 'yes to everything'. I only came by the method of holding down the enter/return key off my own exhasted volition (again it was not suggested in instructions or options of instal).
There should have been a 'yes to everything' option surely!!! Oh, and when I tried using the software that came with the product to make recordinds the sound was full of interference. I only got it to work properly in Windows Movie Maker - and even there I had to make some changes.
I'm also quite annoyed that it cost me about £65 in a shop about 6 months or so back but now it's selling at around £20 - I think because they had so many returns. I do wish I'd bought a different product at the time but I assumed like a lot of people that since it had the official approval of Microsoft then it would be the smoothest running and installing product on any Windows format. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr to that! Best of luck.
I noticed this problem a long time ago. But now i have fixed it. The solution for me worked out when I plugged it in as my first device in vista.
I use vista x64 Ultimate edition. I think there is a driver conflict when this device is installed with other existing USB devices that are plugged in. I noticed that there are 2 driver files (1) vx6000; which is beleive is for the camera and (2) vx6000m; which is for the mic. In earlier installations i could only install one or the other.
The problem seemed to be in the device not picking up both of the driver files. BUT after a clean install of Vista x64 Ultimate AGAIN, i installed this device as my first USB device followed by other software such as the software for my USB mouse and keyboard. It seems to be working fine till now, and i have it installed since the past 2 weeks and the MIC recording does not show any signs of background noise or white noise as some people call it.
I tried it with MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger and Skype and it works great. I hope this description might help some of the people out there who are having problems with this device. If anyone has any questions feel free to post it here and someone I am sure will help out as MS is not that big of help. Yes, I have used all the programs that come with MS; also with Movie maker. The mic works great without any background noise and I would say that this is the first time in a year that i have heard a mic recording that is this clear. I read somewhere that someone had tried installing the device under Safemode (using F8 during startup) and it installed well and worked fine afterwards.
I am just throwing out all of the ideas/techniques that people have tried and were or were not succesful. This does not guarantee that everyone's problems will be solved with this device. There are more ways that people have tried installing this device which I am sure you can find by searching around.
As I said reinstalling the O/S worked for me. It might work for others too but one can't always be positive. AND make sure that if you do try to reinstall. Backup all of your data. I recently purchased Lifecam VX-6000 because my old Logitech web cam could not be made to work with Windows Vista (Ultimate) even with the latest driver. My reasoning in buying is that atleast Microsoft would make their own hardwares compatible with Visa. To my disbelief, I discovered that Lifecam sound (mic) not function properlyat all. There is a constant background noise which makes other sound barely audible.
I even tied re-installing the driver several times without any luck. Later on I fogured out that I am not the only one to facing this problem.
Even the ticket logged in Microsoft Support has not evinced any respone as far from them. For the cost of the product, I would really appreciate if Microsoft provides better response and greater compatiblity of hardwares for Vista. 'I recently purchased Lifecam VX-6000 because my old Logitech web cam could not be made to work with Windows Vista (Ultimate) even with the latest driver.

Yes, you'd have thought that very logically - I thought the same. I actually did somehow manage to get my VX-6000 working both in sound and picture in sync and in excellent quality and I've had it working well now for 3 months or so. But yesterday I defragged my computer and now I'm back with the very distorted sound again. So, more trial and error will have to take place - because Microsoft has not offered reasonable straightforward help online.
But at least I can tell you all that the problem is not related to my wi-fi hubbed nor any proximity to any other equipment because everything is where it was before I defragged. So I'm going to have to try lots of setting changes again, and try re-installing again - and again and again probably. Oh, and I am on Windows XP now like I have been throughout with this product.
Strange - it was working perfectly until I defragged. I have purchased a LifeCam VX-6000 webcam and tried to install it on my PC running Windows Vista Business. I downloaded the LifeCam 2.04 software, ran the installation package, inserted the webcam when prompted.
Eventually, the installation program didn't end successfully. I was given an error saying 'the installation program couldn't proceed because of unexpected error'.
At the same time, drivers seemed to install correctly, as the OS informed. In the Device Manager I can see the webcam with the latest driver (5.5.3.74) and saying 'the device is functioning properly'. However, when I tried to launch an IM client (Skype and Windows Messenger) or tried to set Webcam settings, the video function didn't work - instead of video I could see just a blank screen. The green LED on the webcam goes on. Also, the mike from the camera does work. The LifeCam software seems to work well, except for not being to show any video (as in any other program supporting video). Anyone had this problem?

I am having the exact same problem with a VX-5000 install running XP SP3. I've done all of the trouble shooting that was recommended on the MS site. I'm very frustrated, 8 hours in to what should be a PnP install.
I managed to get the mic working by following the link posted earlier. Easier than the hassle of returning it. If you open the -sounds panel and see all the bars lit up on the mic then it is probably grounded out by the noise shield.
Lifecam Vx 800
By the way, if you do this you well need a very fine phillips screwdriver for the side screws that mount to the bracket. As far as the drivers went, I have Vista and I simply downloaded the latest version and installed it, then plugged in the camera, no problems there. I could not get the link Earwig posted to work, but this link did work: The driver is 54mb in size and takes a while to install. It also includes a version of MS Movie Maker which is nice. I also foudn a problem with the mic but also solved it. The mic level is set to zero initially. You must adjust the microphone level while the software is running otherwise it is set to zero and there is no audio recorded.
Right click speaker, mouse Recording devices, mouse the lifecam microphone, mouse Properties, mouse the Levels tab and adjust volume to 50 or more. Then mouse OK. Remember do this while webcam application is running. I actually have a lifecam vx-1000 and it has worked well for several months. Hope this helps. All the Best, gyaeger123.
Hi there, it might be help you from this: Thank you for your quick response and answering my questions. In order to further troubleshoot this issue, please follow the instructions below: 1.
Click 'Start Settings Control Panel' 2. Double-click 'Sound and Audio Devices' 3. Click on the 'Audio' tab 4. Look at the section called 'Sound Recording' and see if your default device is set to Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000. (If it is not, please click on the drop down box and set it to that. If that option is not available, please let me know) 5.
Next, click on the 'Voice' tab. Under the section 'Voice Playback', please make sure that your sound card is selected.
Under the section 'Voice Recording', please make sure that the default device is set to Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000. (If it is not, please click on the drop down box and set it to that. If that option is not available, please let me know). After you have completed this, click 'Test Hardware'. Click 'Next' on the first page of the wizard. (Windows will test your hardware then will load up a program that allows you to see if Windows is receiving sound from your voice recording device). After the test is complete, talk into the webcam and see if your Microphone moves up and down.
If it does, then windows can successfully get sound from the microphone. If you find that the microphone does not move (little green bars going up when you speak) continue below: a. Press 'Cancel' on the sound test. Click 'Volume' under your 'Voice Recording' section. Check to make sure that 'Mute All' is not checked for the device.
If you see that you are able to still receive sound on the microphone, then the problem may reside with Windows Live Messenger itself. If that is the case, we can troubleshoot it further, however, I would recommend that you try out a program like Skype (for troubleshooting purposes) to see if you are unable to still transmit sound.
The program allows you to make a test call to their server which will echo back the sound they get from your microphone. Please let me know if you have any questions about the instructions provided above. Please let me know a response to these instructions at your earliest convenience. And another hey guys i found this posting that help me and now my vx6000 work with the video call on msn msngr 2009!!!! In order to manually update your driver, follow the steps below (the next steps): 1. Go to Device Manager (right click on My Computer, choose Manage and then find Device Manager in the left panel) 2. Right click on the hardware device you wish to update and choose Update Driver Software 3. Choose to select the location of the new driver manually and browse to the folder where you downloaded the driver. About External Web Camera Updates: Installing the web camera’s drivers and utilities will help your system to properly recognize the device and to benefit from the features that this external unit brings (such as capturing and sending images or videos through a computer network). In addition to that, updating the webcam’s software could enhance the unit’s overall performance, include workarounds for various issues, and add support for new features (still, take into account that some of the changes might not be very significant).
As a general rule, each manufacturer tries to make the installation steps as easy as possible so that the update can performed by most users without the need of additional support. As for the actual steps of the installation, all you have to do is simply expand the downloaded package (if necessary), run the setup, and follow the on-screen instructions. So, if this release includes changes that you deem necessary, just click on the download button to get the package, and apply it.
